About KWCTU’s Activity

Youth Temperance Council (Director Hyun Kyung Kim)

• We provide Bible Study, Temperance Scholarships, No Smoking No Drinking Education and campaigns, pamphlets to youth, college students, international students, soldiers with the aim to guide the next generation with the gospel.
• We also run a Daycare Center in Seoul and Daegu and teach temperance through faith.

Home Protection Department (Director Duck Soon Lee)

• We collaborate with WWCTU to decide on the direction of the temperance movement and distribute pamphlets, run temperance seminars and campaigns, carry out legalization movements to protect families and adolescents from harmful movements stemming from alcohol and smoking.

Education Department (Professor Kyung Il Park)

• We have No Alcohol and No Smoking Education Guide for teachers and No Alcohol & No Smoking education and pamphlets for the general public. We train instructors as well as FAS prevention research.

Christian Outreach Department (Pastor Hye Kyung Kim)

• We are supporting the foundation of WWCTU’s worldwide activities and are currently carrying out worldwide temperance movements in Indonesia, East Timor, Cambodia, Kyrgyzstan, China, Philippine, Senegal.

Social Service Department (Director Kyung Ja Choi)

• Our activities include: support for orphans and widows, wells and energy provision for countries with water and energy shortages, help for North Korean refugees, families with single parents, single mothers, detention centers and other underprivileged people in South Korea.

Organization

• Location of KWCTU Hall : 35-26 Dongja-dong Yongsan-gu Seoul, Korea
• Branches: 6 branches, each in Seoul, Taegu, Busan, Inchon, and etc (1 branch abroad in Sydney, Australia).

  • Introduction
    • The Indonesia Division began in 1997 as a women’s education movement. The Division was granted approval by the Indonesian government and is currently an official member of the WWCTU

    • - Missionary work: Working on the evangelization of Indonesia

  • Introduction
    • The New Zealand Division was founded on November 11, 2011 as a group of disciples holding weekly Bible study. The Division is focused on educating the harms of alcohol and smoking to the overseas Korean community in New Zealand for a life of temperance by holding temperance seminars at church camps and youth groups. In 2012, the Division helped found the Cambodian Division along with KWCTU.

        • Christian Education Department (Deaconess Suk Hwa Lim): The Department works to evangelize the locals with its teachings of the gospel.

• Australia Division
  

  • Introduction
    • The Australia Division was founded in 1994 with 12 members. With a slogan of “Protecting families and society from smoking and alcohol, and leading youth”, the Division is carrying out diverse temperance movements and activities .

    • - Music Missionary Work: Holds regular Christian worship concerts.
    • - Campaign: Provides a temperance campaign targeting locals, as well as provide seminars on the need for no smoking and no drinking.
    • - Missionary for Aboriginal locals: Works with local churches and missionaries to hold programs of worship, educate, and hold services over 4 days across Tingha, Grafton, Tarbulam, Tenterfield to aboriginal locals.

  • Introduction
    • The Cambodia Division was founded in 2012 after Cambodian missionary Ji Chul Jung and Mi Ja Han visited a meeting with the New Zealand division and returned to Cambodia. In 2013, the Cambodian diplomat acted as an advisor and the Cambodian Division was officially registered as an NGO of Cambodia.

    • - Service: Works to build churches in Cambodia and evangelize the local community.
    • - Language Education: In order to prevent illiteracy in Cambodia, providing Korean schools and English classes.

• Senegal Division

    • - Adolescents: Provides Sunday School and service for children in Senegal
    • - Evangelization of Africa: Working for the evangelization of Africa and spread of Jesus Christ’s love through Senegal.
    • - Spiritual instructor training: Working to foster workers in Christ by working with local churches.
    • - Currently preparing temperance education and activities. In the process of translating temperance pamphlets into French.
• Guatemala Division
  

  • Introduction
    • Guatemala Deborah Foundation: With support from WWCTU’s Norway, Korea, and other branches, the Foundation serves to give women and child victims of poverty, sexual assault, prostitution, family violence, and addiction hope through Jesus Christ in order to recover in faith.
    • Vision: Help women living in tough situations a safe and peaceful life without alcohol, drugs, violence, prostitution through the teaching of the gospel and temperance movement.
    • Mission: Reduce poverty, illiteracy rate, violence and addiction among women and children through proper healthcare, education, and training.

  • Activity
    • - CADI: Center of Attention Development Infantile: Take care of children who are in extreme poverty and whose mothers have to work outside their homes.
    • - Regular education: elementary education (2 year program), middle school (2 years, ages 15 and above) and high school (1 year, ages 18 and above) education for those who did not have a chance to finish their education.
    • - Specialization education: Provide education for healthcare, addiction prevention, responsible parenting workshop, arts and craft, cooking, woven fabrics, clothe-making, beauty care, music, computer, English.
    • - Healthcare: Workshops, campaigns, seminars by health experts about addiction prevention.
• Nepal Division
  • Introduction
    • Introduced by Nepal missionary M. Later participated the Norway World Convention with Nepalese students. Continued regular temperance education in Nepalese schools and in 2015 completed temperance organization.

    • Working hard to visit students in missionary zones to evangelize and teach temperance. Focused efforts on aid after the Nepal earthquake.

  • India
    • Missionary Jung Ah Son. Mumbai with husband and two sons. Receiving funding from KWCTU and suggestions on temperance movement.
  • Kyrgyzstan
    • Receiving funding from KWCTU for churches, books, and resources through missionary Ae Kyung Kim and her husband. Currently researching the possibility of a KWCTU branch.
  • Israel
    • Supporting missionary Geum Gon Kim’s drug rehabilitation school and church. Receiving funding from KWCTU and currently researching the possibility of a KWCTU branch.
  • Vietnam
    • Providing temperance seminars to youth through missionaries Jae Chul Kim and Hyun Joo Ha.
  • England
    • Providing temperance seminars to youth in the Wales countryside through missionaries Jae Yeon Yoo and Young Sook Chun.
  • Tanzania
    • Providing temperance seminars to local youth in Tanzania through missionary Mi Kyung Lee.
  • Vanuatu
    • Providing temperance seminars to youth through missionaries Chun Hee Won and Nan Joo Kim. Visiting seminar by missionary Brenda Suh.
